|Publisher :||The Merriweather Deer|
Formed in early 2010 as a side project, The Merriweather Deer is a collective of music scene vets from various indie bands in HK. Fronted by Ephraim Bano (Whence he came/The Lovesong), Don Cruz (Audiotraffic) on guitar, Gideon So (Noughts and Exes) on Keys/Melodica, Glenn Bogador (Shepherds the Weak/Audiotraffic) and Lee Yat Ding (The Lovesong/Take Bad with the Good) on bass and drums respectively, the group has played a few shows around the HK circuit, quickly generating some buzz. Most notably, they were picked to open up for The Flaming Lips and The Raveonettes during the HK leg of their tour in November 2010, on the night the band released their debut EP.
Archives EP is The Merriweather Deer’s debut release. Independently recorded in HK, produced and released by the band themselves, the EP boasts the variety and talent that makes the group shine through their years in the scene. It takes strong influences from timeless groups like U2, The Beatles and the Smiths, with hints of more recent guitar/synth-driven bands like Broken Social Scene, Modest Mouse and M83 thrown in and is topped off with their own brand of raw, melodic, ambient rock. Archives EP makes it easily accessible for any listener to get into.
